High Speed Train In Florida: Future or Fail?

Florida is going to have a high speed rail that will connect Tampa and Orlando.  The govornment will spend 800 million dollars on this project.  This will be the first high speed rail in the United States, and would be an enormous waste of money if it did not prove to be successfull.  The idea is that emissions would be cut and so would overall traffic levels.  There would be less people making this long and popular commute, and as technology grows, this high speed rail would become even more environmentally friendly.  I personally think that this is a great idea for transportation, i think it does alot to bring entire communities to think more about the ecological foot print they have.  Asia and Europe use this technology very successfully and I don't see any reason why we shouldnt either. I believe the further we move forward with green technology, the better our economy, environment, and way of lifing will be in decades to come.

Medicinal Marijuana Now In Arizona

The people of Arizona recently voted in favor of Medicinal Marijuana, the only state besides California to do so.  now this was only passed by a very small margin, but never the less it will open up about 125 medicinal marijuana distribution sights.  California has a reputation for doing new things and teh rest of country slowly taking up the same thing, whether or not this is the start of that, only time will tell.  i think it could be a great way to get tax revenue wihtout breaking the backs of the struggling or targeting the wealthy.  i jsut think we have to resolvbe the conflict between the California and Arizona law and Federal law before it can really go any further.

Fillibusters-Good or Bad?

in my opinion i think that fillibusters have become too much, i think they are used way more than they were ever intended to and ever should have been used.  Has there been some times when fillibusters have helped a situationm? I'm sure there has, but they don't anymore. Fillibusters are the legislative branch's way of not having to make a desicion.  It's no more than an excuse for them to not make a decision. Already it takes a 2/3 majority in the senate for there to be a majority and that holds the senate back from taking action as it is. Thsi idea of Fillibusters is just a detriment to our governing system, especially now that it has gone too far. i see how everyones opinoion needs to be said, but it can be said in a timely matter, not purposefully stopping ll movement.  i feel that it does hurt democracy, mainly by stopping democracy from even happening.

Earmarks- issue or not?

To say that earmarks are not an issue for our country is definately false, to what degree of an issue they pose to our debt verses their benefits is the the real question at hand.  In no doubt have great things been acomplished on the local level via earmarks, but a great national debt has also been fueled by this type of spending. Earmarks are one of the many contributing factors to our national debt, but a large one none the less.  So do we all have to agree and go along with McCain's no earmark what-so-ever policy he promised if he were to have beeen elected?  i think we need to get rid of earmarks and devise a system for a more clean cut representation of these proposed expenses, instead of hiding them inside bigger proposals.  We cant go on voting for proposal A while ignoring but still paying for proposals B, C, D, E, and F; this system is spending us into the ground and we need to be front up about what we are spending money on.
